Hi friend,

Here’s a list of 5 things that I’ve been enjoying and learning about in July:

  • Music I’ve been listening to: Hamilton soundtrack

The Hamilton soundtrack has been on REPEAT on my Spotify in July. I can’t seem to get it out of my head. I’ve wanted to see it for a while and due to Disney+ releasing it at the beginning of July that desire has been fulfilled. It was better than I had hoped for. It opened my eyes to a lot more of the story of independence of America and the journey the individuals went on, it’s funny, relevant to today, and it will make you cry. 100% recommend it, and I’m going to be watching it again soon.

  • Quote that’s got me thinking:

“You do not go as far as your dream, you go as far as your team.” Dharius Daniels

I came across this quote from Dharius Daniels in his interview with Carey Nieuwhof here. It’s deeply rang true with me, it doesn’t matter how amazing or epic your vision is, if you don’t have the right people around you then you’ll never see that dream accomplished. Teamwork makes the dream work.

  • Book I’ve been reading: Ruthless elimination of hurry by John Mark Comer

“If you want to experience the life of Jesus, you have to adopt the lifestyle of Jesus.”

I’ve been looking forward to reading John Mark Comer’s latest book since I’ve read several of his other books. This is gold. John Mark write honestly and openly about some of the struggles and distractions that we can face while trying to follow Jesus in 2020, but he gives a clear vision and direction with what it can look like as we embrace centuries old spiritual disciplines such as Sabbath, simplicity, silence, and solitude.

  • Series we’ve been watching: Scrubs

Scrubs is a classic feel-good comedy following the adventures of new doctors, and best friends, JD and Turk. I’d watched all the series around 10 years ago but after seeing it’s available on 4OD we decided to make it our next series to watch together. While there are many funny moments what I think Scrubs does so well is that it brings in meaningful and important themes such as how relationships work, facing death, and handling changes in life-seasons.

  • Bible verse I’m thinking about: Amos 5:21-24

There’s been a lot of talk around injustice recently, I found these verses in Amos particularly powerful in The Message paraphrase. As a Christian I believe that it is so important to speak up where there is injustice in our world, I’ve been silent too often and that’s not good enough.

“I can’t stand your religious meetings. I’m fed up with your conferences and conventions. I want nothing to do with your religion projects, your pretentious slogans and goals. I’m sick of your fund-raising schemes, your public relations and image making. I’ve had all I can take of your noisy ego-music. When was the last time you sang to me? Do you know what I want? I want justice – oceans of it. I want fairness – rivers of it. That’s what I want. That’s all I want.” Amos 5:21-24

Have you tried any of these? What have you been watching or reading in July? I’d love to hear from you so please email me on daneverett90@gmail.com, leave a comment or find me on Social Media @daneverett90
