Hi friend,

Here’s a list of 5 things that I’ve been enjoying and learning about in June:

  • Quote that’s got me thinking:

“Solidarity is nothing but self-satisfying if it is solely performative” Reni Eddo-Lodge

I’ve been reading Reni’s book ‘Why I’m no longer talking to white people about race’ to help me gain a deeper understanding and greater empathy with the challenges that many, many black and coloured men and women face on a day to day basis. Because I am white it’s very easy for me to simply be ignorant or not give the injustice faced enough attention. However, I am learning to engage better (I hope) and I believe that it is something that we all need to pay attention to. I’ve had some conversations over the last months with friends who have experienced racist behaviour and bias. Thank you to each one of them for sharing with me. I also had the opportunity to interview my friend Michael on my podcast. You can listen to his experience of facing racism in the UK here.

Please, continue to listen, continue to learn and continue to use your voice to speak up.

  • Conference I’m attending: Surge 20

Every year we host an international conference as part of the Destiny Church Network. This year Surge was due to be hosted in the Usher Hall in Edinburgh. Of course, we are not able to meet together at the moment. We’ve been able to host Surge 20 online, and new content is coming every week in July and it’s all FREEE!! What!? Please do join me as we engage with Surge by signing up on surgeconference.com

  • Book I’ve been reading: Relationship Goals by Michael Todd

Michael Todd shares with great transparency around his failures in relationships as well as the confidence he has in doing relationships God’s way. If you’re dating, or considering dating this would be a fantastic read to help you figure out what’s what.

Have a read of the book or watch the YouTube series.

  • Theme I’ve been thinking about: Resilience

In lockdown I’ve had moments of struggling with my mental health. I know I’m not the only one (if you’re struggling please do reach out, let me know). Resilience is the capacity to keep on getting up in tough circumstances, and we all need resilience to thrive. Here’s two discussions on resilience that will really help you:

3 secrets of resilient people

The Leadership Superpower of the Post-Pandemic World

  • Device that I’m enjoying: Nintendo Switch

It was a lovely surprise to get a Nintendo Switch for my birthday last month. I used to be a big fan of the Game Boy and Nintendo DS, so it’s great to be back on a handheld console. I’ve been dipping into nostalgia through playing the remastered Spyro trilogy, do you remember that on the Playstation? Have you any Switch game recommendations?

What have you been thinking about in June? What do I need to read or listen to in July? I’d love to hear from you so please email me on daneverett90@gmail.com, leave a comment or find me on Social Media @daneverett90
